Guided daytime tours at Z Ward Glenside
Z Ward: SA’s Hospital for Criminal Mental Defectives 1885-1973
Exclusive opportunity – Two hour Guided Tours
This 130 year old State Heritage listed building has unique architectural features, historical significance, and is surrounded by an intact ha-ha wall – possibly the last complete ha-ha wall remaining in Australia. Z Ward at Glenside is also of great interest to health professionals, historians, students of architecture, and those interested in SA’s heritage.
The new owners of Z Ward (Beach Energy) plan to start building works early next year to modify Z Ward for use as offices. Until then, they are permitting the National Trust of South Australia to operate selected tours to allow South Australians a glimpse of the unique history that is Z Ward.
The Guided Tours of Z Ward are ticketed events limited to a maximum of 50 people per session. Priced at $15, and designed for non-photographers*, each ticket will allow up to two hours access inside and outside Z Ward, a knowledgeable guide and a colour handout.
The next scheduled tour is Saturday, January 17th from 2-4pm. Bookings and payment are available online.
Please note:
Z Ward is an old building with minor hazards including dust, sharp surfaces, and uneven surfaces in the grounds. There are stairs but no lifts or wheelchair access.
There are NO TOILETS or running water in the building. Please bring water if you wish, but no food is permitted inside the building.
There will be no admission without a ticket booked online. The ticket is valid for one person only. The sessions finish at 3pm & 5pm sharp, although you may leave earlier if necessary.
Car parking for this event is available just south of the building, which is located at 63 Conyngham St Glenside.
- Specialist photographer tours and night time tours are also available for those with these special interests with the price reflecting the costs involved.
