Protect our Heritage! People’s Forum September 18 – Norwood Concert Hall
Changes to South Australia’s planning laws are causing widespread public concern about a loss of community rights, overdevelopment in a number of areas and diminished protections for our built heritage and natural environment.
Policies being proposed for introduction under the State’s new Planning and Design Code have not been properly consulted upon and are not consistent with many of the stated objectives of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act (PDI Act). Decision making bodies established under the Act are not operating with the level of transparency and public accountability expected by the community.
Protect our Heritage is an alliance of organisations and individuals aiming to address these public concerns and to advocate for better solutions through the Parliament.
Our goals are to:
• Protect our heritage (buildings, trees, green space and nature reserves)
• Build community participation in preservation and restoration activities and
• Restore democracy in the planning and land use system.
You are invited to attend a public forum to find out what is at risk and how we can tackle current threats to our urban and natural environment.
This is a forum without politicians and government officials telling us what they think is good for us.
It is the start of a community conversation about the kinds of protections we want for our heritage, trees, open spaces and nature reserves.
If you are concerned about what is happening in your street, suburb or town and want to get back your say on what happens in our environment, we encourage you to attend and join the campaign to protect our heritage and our rights as owners, residents and citizens.
